Things I'd like to see!

Much less of this...

 but more of this...
and this!!

Worshipping here
rather than at the "Church of Westfield"

Westfield Chermside on a Saturday or Sunday

Others
-Much less talk about Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and more of Gross Happiness Index(GHI).
-Less hand wringing about Economic Growth (or lack of) more acceptance of Steady State Economics.
-Acceptance that Climate change is real and doing something fair dinkum about it.
-A realisation that we are pushing the limits of what the world can provide and not eating into Natural capital.
-gagging Andrew Bolt, Today Tonight, A Current Affair, electing Kerry O'Brien for President(!).

And finally a quote from a book that has really resonated for me, "Judgement Day" by Paul Collins;

      "those of us whose lives have spanned the seven decades since the beginning of the Second World War will be among the most despised and cursed generations in the whole history of humankind.  The reason why we will be hated by our generation and by those who come after them is simple: never before have human beings so exploited, damaged, and degraded the earth to the extent that we have."

Hopefully we are not too late to change our generation's legacy.

A Bit of this and that...

I enjoyed reading this;

"The Concept of Living Well", its quite long but interesting.

Some examples of not so great town planning, I wonder where the Gold Coast got their canal ideas from?

Going to hear Tim Flannery at the Powerhouse  tomorrow night talking about his new book and other things environmental.

Whoa!!

From the Spirit House website;

How important is spelling… really

I have to confess that I don’t have the greatest attention to detail. But what I saw next really proves that spelling isn’t that necessary.

Dolphins and Raspberries

Visited Seaworld on the Gold Coast yesterday where my daughters swam with the dolphins. Our last visit was back in 1999,  it hasn't really changed, the Bermuda Triangle still has Officer Clark turning alien!

Its interesting revisiting things that were once a hoot and really enjoyable, especially when viewed with the eyes of young children. However the return visit was a bit ho hum, the setup is a bit tired and in need of a spit and polish, but interesting to compare the experiences.

Planted some raspberries today, Heritage variety, allegedly suitable for SE QLD weather, hopefully not attractive to fruit fly!

Harvested carrots, beans, lettuce, celery, silverbeet and parsley.

A new era in Australian politics, could be a new and exciting way. Also wishing quiet times for Christchurch and normality for Pakistan.

Today's ramblings cease!

A nice sunset, I love sunsets!

Where I'm at

Aquaponic grown tomatoes
Growth in the grow beds
Jade and silver perch
Vegie garden

About half my backyard is turned over to the vegie garden, prime growing time is April to December, then it gets too hot, too humid and too many bugs. Then I grow green manure crops or experiment with tropical food plants.

Aquaponics is my latest venture, I'm still green, but its working! Heaps of tomatoes to ripen, the growbeds are full of growth and there's 35 fish to eat!!-its got to be the way of the future.

First Blog

Some random thoughts and observations, hopefully not too boring!
